I don't trust GGG enough to be able to give most of this the attention it deserves. Less visual clutter and better telegraphed attacks. Less enemies, slower enemies, less damage for both players and enemies. It's not just that we go slower, it's that everything would have to. For it to change to, say, a Dark Souls-style game where skill factors more than anything else, almost all the gameplay has to change. Path of Exile was intrinsically built on this concept. It's worked for Diablo 2 for well over 25 years now. Mechanical skill can be negated by simply having better gear. Knowledge has always been the biggest asset to have, especially in Path of Exile. The "difficulty" is in filtering the good loot from the bad and maximizing efficiency.

The average ARPG is a power fantasy: You kill hundreds upon hundreds of mobs all for their cool loot. This is true of all ARPG's and the solution, from my perspective, would require a fundamental shift in game direction. You're not rewarded for playing the game well just fast.
